Costume & Prop Guidelines

Costumes Props
  • Naked is not a costume; any illusion to nudity is strictly prohibited. If we can see through your clothes to your body parts, you will be disqualified.
  • Dramatically plunging necklines and bare chests are not allowed.
  • All contestants must wear, at minimum, shorts or a skirt that completely covers the behind.
  • Shoes, boots, or slippers are required (socks are not considered foot coverings).
  • If your character does not wear shoes, footwear must still be worn.
  • Portrayal of any real or fictional figure that advocates or endorses the dehumanization of any real group of people is prohibited.
  • Hate symbols, even historical hate symbols, are prohibited.
  • All contestants must be able to move their costumes on their own.
  • Large costumes must be no more than 2 feet in all directions, due to the blocking of traffic flow and other hazards.
  • All props must be checked at the Prop Check Table. Once checked, a piece of orange yarn will be tied to your prop.
  • No real guns, even those that are no longer functioning.
  • Realistic-looking toy or model guns will be allowed only as long as they are clearly marked with orange on the barrel.
  • No ammo of any kind (including Nerf darts, etc.) may be brought into the building.
  • Sharp-edged weapons are strictly prohibited.
  • Large foam, cardboard, and plastic props are allowed as long as they are not being used inappropriately.
  • For safety reasons, the following are NOT allowed: live animals, substances which might damage or soil the event space, aerosol sprays, projectiles of any kind, and pyrotechnics of any kind.
